Buyer/Aerospace Electrical Buyer

Hutchinson Stop-choc are a leading supplier of Anti Vibration Mounts, Avionics Racking and Illuminated Control and Display Systems for the Aerospace, Defence and Industrial markets, both in the UK and across the globe. We are looking for an experienced Buyer with a minimum of five years working within a manufacturing environment. Aerospace would be an advantage.

Job Description

You should have experience both buying from an approved suppliers list and searching the market for potential suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing, and lead times. You should be able to manage your suppliers using on-time delivery, quality and cost metrics ensuring the best fit with our business. You will also have experience of Materials planning, raising Manufacturing and Sub Con Orders to ensure finished goods are planned to be produced in line with the customer requirements as highlighted by MRP.

This is an interesting and varied role that will call for you to have excellent interpersonal, strong relationship building, communication and influencing Skills. Attention to detail and high standards of accuracy are critical for this position, as is the ability to put the customers’ needs and expectations at the heart of the role. On occasion you may be required to work out of hours which will be either as paid overtime or to have time off in lieu as agreed.

Duties

  • Promote and follow the procurement policy guidelines of the company.
  • From MRP-based reports, obtain competitive quotations from suppliers where possible and place appropriate purchase orders
  • Ensure the ERP system is kept up to date with correct costings and lead time information to ensure the accuracy of MRP
  • Send out RFQs alongside drawings and other technical data to cost new projects
  • To monitor and manage your top suppliers
  • Manage the plan, capacity loading and the processing of works orders and generation of kit lists.
  • Support Production to ensure smooth work flow to adhere to MRP dates.
  • To establish good relationships with sub-contractors
  • Promote & implement LEAN principles and practices across the organisation
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and occasional supplier visits
  • Reduce stock where opportunity exists, and manage risk in line with corporate strategy
  • May be required to undertake any other duties as specified by the Line Manager to meet business needs.

The candidate:

Will be;

  • An organised and self-motivated person who is used to working within fast paced environments, ideally but not essentially in aerospace manufacturing

And will have;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A track record of implementing cost saving initiatives
  • Experience of working within an MRP/ERP system (Infor / SAP etc)
  • Good Understanding of ISO9001/AS0100 Systems in relation to the purchasing and Supply function
  • A real team player, who can work on their own when required. You will report to the Supply Chain Manager.
